Frailty Status and Risk of Falls in HIV-Infected Older Adults in the ACTG A5322 Study

from Jules: frailty is increasingly common in older HIV+ and greater for them compared to similarly aged HIV-neg. Frailty can cause a fall & multiple falls, the general literature finds falls & consequent fractures can increase mortality & certainly reduce quality of life. Older HIV+ over 60have on average 4-6 comorbidities & are taking 12-15 medications. In turn frailty and polypharmacy along with multiple comorbidities will increase healthcare costs for this group of older HIV+ several fold compared to younger HIV+
