The Australian government has promised another $400 million to the worldwide fight against HIV.
Asia-Pacific business delegates and government leaders are in Sydney for a meeting, about ways to halt and begin to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS in the region by 2015.
Foreign Minister Alexander Downer says in the next three years, Australia will have spent a billion dollars on trying to tackle the disease.
"In the Asia Pacific region we do not have a problem on the scale of much of Africa and we understand that," he said.
"But we don't want to let it get to that stage and so we are - as a significant country in the region - determined to address the problem."
