HERE IS MORTALITY HCV data in NYC......
HCV/Coinfection in NYC-HCV+ Die 20 Yrs Earlier/HCV Among HIV+ MSM Tripled - (05/12/14)
IDSA: HIV/Hepatitis C (HCV) Co-infection among Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) in New York City (NYC), 2000-2010 - (10/10/13)
"There was a significant upward trend in the proportion of HCV infections reported among people with HIV who are MSM. In 2000, 7% of HCV reports among people with HIV were MSM; in 2010, 24% were MSM......The increase in the percentage of HCV reports among persons with HIV that have MSM as a risk factor indicate a need for targeted hepatitis C prevention and testing campaigns for this group"
IDSA: CDC Figures Annual US Mortality in People With HCV Could Top 80,000: HCV Mortality Under-reported, Mortality Rate 12 Times Higher than General Population, HCV+ Die 15 Years Younger than General Population - (10/07/13)
Based on this finding, the researchers estimated that more than 80,000 US residents with HCV died in 2010. They noted that chronic liver disease recorded in two thirds of CHeCS members who died "suggests that 53,000 patients are dying not only with, but possibly from HCV.......In the resulting (CDC Study) Chronic Hepatitis Cohort Study (CHeCS), the investigators identified those who died from 2006 through 2010. They compared CHeCS mortality findings with data from the national Multiple Cause of Death (MCOD) study in the same period......Compared with MCOD data, mortality was 12 times higher in CHeCS. Age-adjusted mortality in CHeCS compared with MCOD was 61 times higher for HCV infection (relative risk [RR] 61.4)
IDSA: Causes of Death among People with Hepatitis C in NYC, 2000-2011 - (10/10/13)
The aging affect of HCV depicted in Figure 2: Rates of deaths due to HCV are increasing as people age
"Among persons who died, the majority of people who were HCV mono-infected died prematurely (67%), and nearly all of those who were HCV/HIV co-infected died prematurely (95%) (Figure 1)."
"Persons with HCV mono-infection are at increased risk of dying from liver cancer, cirrhosis and drug-related causes compared to New Yorkers without HCV or HIV (Table 2)."
Those who are HCV/HIV co-infected are at increased risk of dying of liver cancer and drug-related causes compared to New Yorkers "without HCV or HIV (Table 2)."
"Among persons reported with HCV between 2000 and 2010, 18% died between 2000 and 2011."

IDSA: Mortality among Persons in Care with Hepatitis C Virus Infection-Chronic Hepatitis Cohort Study (CHeCS), 2006 -2010: HCV deaths grossly Underreported mortality rate 12 times higher than the general population, average age of death is 59 for HCV & 74 for general population, a 15 year difference - (10/11/13)
