Relationship between Type of Antiretroviral Therapy, Drug-Drug Interactions, and Hospitalizations -
"Retrospective cohort study among HIV-infected patients receiving care between 2000 - 2013..... The median (interquartile range, IQR) number of comorbidities and non-HIV medications were 5 (3 - 7) and 3 (1 - 5), respectively.....Population of HIV-infected patients is aging and likely require medications to treat age-related comorbidities..........Simultaneous use of multiple medications can result in severe medical consequences due to contraindicated drug-drug interactions (XDDI)....RESULTS: Among HIV-infected patients on traditional ART regimens, prevalence of XDDIs was 9.6%.....Patients with XDDIs (25.0%) had a significantly higher probability of being hospitalized than patients without an XDDI (15.2%).....Prevalence of XDDIs varied by ART regimen type.....Presence of XDDIs was independently associated with an increased risk of being hospitalized in the first year after initiating a traditional ART regimen."
