Trends in Fracture/Osteoporosis Prevalence and Incidence Over Time
♦♦ Fracture/osteoporosis prevalence (per 1,000 patients) rose over time from 2007 to 2013 for all payers. In Commercial, prevalence rose from 69.9 in 2007 to 95.2 in 2013; in Medicaid, from 167.7 to 199.8; and in Medicare, from 176.4 to 268.9.
♦♦ Among Medicare patients, fracture/osteoporosis incidence (per 1,000 patient-years) increased from 47.3 in 2007 to 69.8 in 2013. Incidence rates remained relatively unchanged among Commercial and Medicaid patients.
♦♦ Figure 1 illustrates the progression of fracture/osteoporosis prevalence and incidence during
2007-2013 for all three payer types.
