Did you see the death figures in the CDC’s latest HIV Surveillance Report?

https://www.cdc.gov/hiv/pdf/library/reports/surveillance/cdc-hiv-surveillance-report-2015-vol-27.pdf

From 2010 through 2014, the death rate among people diagnosed with HIV dropped in every age groupexcept60-64 (in which it rose from 9.9 to 11.0 per 100,000) and 65+ (in which it rose from (4.2 to 4.9 per 100,000). In other words, for people with HIV 60 or older, the death rate was lower in 2010 than in 2014. [see Table 12 a below] Higher deathsamongBlacks vs whites or hispanics [seetables below].

My reading of the data is that its among those previously having stage 3 AIDSdrivingthis, which could be coming from those with low CD4s back in the earlydaysbefore starting HAART.

Deaths of persons with diagnosed HIV infection

From 2010 through 2014 in the United States, the annual number and rate of deaths of persons with diagnosed HIV infection decreased (Table 12a). In 2014, the rate of deaths of persons with diagnosed HIV infection was 4.7. Deaths of persons with diagnosed HIV infection may be due to any cause (i.e., may or may not be related to HIV infection).

Age group: From 2010 through 2014, the rates of deaths for persons aged 60-64 and 65 years and older increased. The rates of deaths for persons aged 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, and 50-54 years decreased. The rate for persons aged 55-59 years remained stable.
