Cancer rates Higher in HIV+ vs HIV- for many but not for all cancers

see table below.....from Jules: take a look at the table below, you will see the SIR which is a ratio of cancers in HIV+ vs HIV- and there is a disturbing but not unexpected higher rate among HIV= for many cancers but not for all. Although cancer rates among HIV+ are generally down from the very early days of HIV people with HIV have worrisome higher rates of many key cancers compared to HIv-negatives. This combined with the increased rates of many other comorbidities HIV+ experience, higher than HIV-negatives & increasingly higher rates as HIV+ age - this creates a worrisome situation regarding not just mortality but also quality of life and disability among older aging HIV+. Some like to quote recent studies of estimates or projections of mortality in HIV showing mortality appears“good" to themcomparedto HIV- andthe general population. But they cannot say that. These studies are projections & estimates ant do not consider the onset of comorbidities & how this affects life expectancy & survival including depression, isolation, fractures, heart disease etc. No studies even project life expectancy with considerations of projecting estimates of these. there is no way one can predict the prevalence or incidence of these diseases or comorbidities. There is no question to me that all these comorbidities will have an affect over time on life expectancy & quality of life of course too. I don’t know why some persist in painting a rosy picture that does not reflect reality. I know many older aging HIV+ 70 years old who are doing relatively well, I also know many older aging HIV+ around 65-70 who are not doing well. they are depressed, isolated, homebound, have mobility issues, have multiple disabling comorbidities including bone disease & fractures, serious heart disease risk or actual heart disease, kidney disease - these people are at great risk for reduced quality of life & life expectancy.
