Program Overview
 
The program is designed to support basic and clinical research in the field of HIV. Areas of research may include, but are not limited to:
 
• HIV treatment and management
• HIV and its complications in special populations (aging, women, people of color, etc)
• HIV prevention
• Basic, clinical, and translational research related to HIV
• Health economics outcomes research relating to HIV
 
Awards granted under the program may not be duplicative of funding from institutional or hospital, other governmental, non-governmental, or industry sources. Applicants seeking an award for research projects that are currently receiving or may receive partial funding from other sources are required to submit appropriate evidence, including budget information related to the other sources, to demonstrate that there is no direct overlap in funding. Proposals are reviewed by an independent Scientific Review Committee, (no Commercial involvement in review or selection, i.e., Marketing, Sales, and Commercial Strategy), and are reviewed based upon the criteria outlined on this website.
 
Liver Disease Americas
 
The mission of the Gilead Sciences International Research Scholars Program in Liver Disease is to support innovative scientific research that will advance knowledge in the field of liver disease and provide support for research career development. The program provides financial support to the institutions of 3 junior faculty researchers for a 2-year period. Each award is funded up to USD130,000. Gilead Sciences, Inc. hopes that the research supported by these awards will enhance understanding of liver disease. Areas of research may include, but are not limited to: • Chronic viral hepatitis • End-stage liver disease and its complications • Non-viral chronic liver diseases • Basic, clinical, and translational research related to liver disease • Health economics outcomes research relating to liver disease
