AGE: Loneliness & Social Isolation in HIV: Reduces Mental & Physical Health. The "Village Model in HIV study: pilot in San Diego, app" - (01/22/20)
federal & local officials remain unresponsive to providing Geriatric HIV Clinics.
A previous cross-sectional analysis of 2028 women in the Women's Interagency HIV Study (WIHS), who were on average 39 years old, found a frailty prevalence of 17% and 10% in women with or at risk for HIV, respectively [1]. To our knowledge, the only two longitudinal studies of frailty among people with HIV were conducted in the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (MACS), which includes only men [2,3]. Data on the distribution of frailty components are limited, and have not been reported for HIV-seropositive people in the United States
'Sarcopenia is anchor point in development of frailty’….sarcopenia predicts declines in strength and power, predicts decreased exercise tolerance, affects metabolic rates, affects declines in walking speed which includes cutting back on physical activity, they had low physical activity so not regulating their dietary intake even when expending almost no energy they were taking in less dietarily - so they had chronic undernutrition which in turn worsens sarcopenia and when this gets bad you get into bad energy balance and you start losing weight'
