Positive Perspectives Wave 2 (PP2) global study is a ViiV program researching the needs of PLWH, highlighting unmet needs......many studies presented in recent years.....4 studies presented a Glasgow.....New data reveal unmet needs among PLHIV in Europe, newly diagnosed older people and men who have sex with women; these insights point to the continued need for holistic care and open dialogue between PLHIV and their HCPs, even during virtual HIV consultations. (Full study results report and infographic can be found here)
• For those in Europe, high engagement with healthcare providers vs low/moderate engagement was unequivocally linked with PLHIV reporting greater treatment satisfaction (89% vs 49%) and optimal overall health (70% vs 44%).
• However, 43% of study participants in Europe said they were uncomfortable discussing their issues with their healthcare providers.
• Global data showed that more newly diagnosed PLHIV aged 50 and over vs those younger than 50 were unwilling to share their HIV status with family, friends and healthcare providers as they feared being excluded (58% vs 40%) or denied healthcare (31% vs 20%).
• Additional global data indicated that men who have sex with women (MSW) experienced worse communication about health issues with their healthcare providers than men who have sex with men (MSM) and women; specifically 88% of MSW reported barriers to discussing important health issues with their HCPs, vs 59% of MSW and 73% of women.
