"ART has decreased mortality for all PWH, increased longevity comes at a cost with increased comobidities, on average adults live 9-15 fewer health years than those without HIV"

There was much discussion by panel on unique stigma experienced by young adults with perinatally acquired HIV and stigma from older horizontally acquired PWH. There was a major concern raised that I have been raising for years that youth & adults both experience - the very bad care due to low reimbursement casing short visits not allowing for doctors to fully address the aging related screening & care needs PWH now face. One doctor went to the mic and said these barriers prevent good screening & care against comorbidities. In this slide talk Dr Dirajlal-Fargo discusses & presents data on increased risk for heart disease, inflammation, worsened body composition for young adults who have perinatally acquired HIV, and the need to better screening - she outlines screening that should be better implemented in care for these youth.
Following slides s a published paper discussing this. Jules Levin
