What my chances are of the Hep C becoming chronic?

Dear Dr. Chung,

I found out in 1992 - thru a blood donation that I had Hepatitis C. I am now 44 years old (female). I've had the RIBA test to confirm and I know the next step would be to have a biopsy, but since I do not have insurance this is not an option at this time. I was just wondering what my chances are of the Hep C becoming chronic? The only problem I seem to have is sometimes I get extremely tired. I appreciate any information you may have for me.

No, the next step is to get an HCV RNA test. if that is positive then you have chronic infection. the biopsy would then be done to determine how much damage there is as a result.
