Dear Dr. Chung,

We recently had an episode with a local Gastroenterologist and we are somewhat concerned about his statements, but hopeful. My husband has Hep C, is currently having further tests done to determine which variety he has - Dr thinks it is strain 2 -A. This dr told us there is now a cure for it, but would not elucidate. Is this true? We are aware of the Interferon/Ribavirin courses, but nothing else and to the information we have on these, they only help for a short period of time......not permanently. According to the biopsy my husband had, he has minor fibrosis in his liver and nothing else wrong at this time. Could you enlighten us please??? Regards

He is correct. data following up sustained responders indicates that if you are free of virus 6 months after finishing therapy the likelihood of remaining so indefinitely is excellent (>95%). this is tantamount to a cure concept.
