I had problems with peripheral neuropathy from the beginning but was told to persevere.
Dear Dr. Chung,
I was in the original clinical trials with interferon (3MU TIW) and
ribavirin (1200mg) for one year. I had problems with peripheral neuropathy
from the beginning but was told to persevere as they would go away when
Istopped treatment. I finished treatment in September 1998
(relapsed) and the neuropathy gradually worsened. I have just been
diagnosed with Small Fiber Polyneuropathy. The neurologist is currently
investigatiing the ribavirin as the source of the problem but I also see
that hepatitis C may be involved. IS HCV INVOLVED? Have you come across this
before?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Dr Chung Writes-
I would try to exclude the diagnosis of cryoglobulinemia, which is not only
HCV-associated, but can certainly cause neuropathy.
if this test is negative, it may be worth considering the effects of the
treatment.
