Dear Dr. Chung,
I am a 33 year old white male. I have been very tired lately and went
to the doctor to see what was wrong with me. The doctor said that my liver
enzymes were elevated (38). I was tested for hepatitis which was
negative. This is not the first time I was told of elevated liver enzymes. I don't drink excessively and I don't do drugs. Any idea what would cause this and could my tiredness be related.
Many thanks,
Rob
Dr Chung Writes-
This is a very mild elevation and may be of no consequence whatsoever.
However, I would be sure it's not due to excess iron, which can produce fatigue. Also, conditions of the bile ducts and autoimmune liver conditions should be ruled out, too.
