Higher CD4 at cART Initiation Predicts Long Term Likelihood of CD4 Normalization in the HIV Outpatient Study (HOPS)..... authors: "these data confirm the hazards of delayed cART initiation and support cART initiation at CD4 ≥ 500"

from Jules: look at Figure 2 which shows 83.6% of patients starting ART with CD4 >500 achieve over 750 CD4 & 65.8% starting ART with 350-500 CD4 achieve >750. Table 3 shows th hazard ratios for achieving >750 with a doubling of the hazard ratios when comparing starting ART with >500 vs 350-499. Table 2 reports median peak CD4 that was reached by patients - 1129 Cd4 for those living who started with >500 CD4s vs 926 for those started ART with 350-499 Cd4. Interestingly patients who started ART, as was recommended in the early days of ART after 1996 peak median CD4 for those still living was much lower & for those who started with CD4 50-199 median lead CD4 reached was 553 for those still living....another point related to early ART
