Here are key HCV & AGING Reports

Hepatitis C

IDSA: Ledipasvir/Sofosbuvir is Safe and Effective as a Single-Tablet-Regimen for Treatment of Patients with Genotype 1 Chronic Hepatitis C Virus, Including those with Compensated Cirrhosis - (10/15/14)

IDSA: ABT-450/R/OMBITASVIR AND DASABUVIR WITH RIBAVIRIN ACHIEVES HIGH SUSTAINED VIROLOGIC RESPONSE RATES REGARDLESS OF BASELINE CHARACTERISTICS: POOLED ANALYSES OF THE SAPPHIRE-I AND SAPPHIRE-II STUDIES - (10/15/14)

IDSA: Safety of ABT-450/r/Ombitasvir + Dasabuvir With or Without Ribavirin in HCV Genotype 1-Infected Patients, by Baseline Demographics - (10/15/14)

ACG: Abbvie 3D at ACG - (10/20/14)

HCV in Australia "it is the Dallas Buyers Club scenario"...HCV therapy is much less expensive than HIV HAART...... "Australia is on the verge of a catastrophic death spiral from Hepatitis C" - (10/25/14)

HIV & Aging

What is Frailty in HIV?: Geriatric Syndrome to Physiologic Process - (10/22/14) .......suppressing HIV viral load to undetectable levels significantly reduces inflammation, which is a major reason the HHS ART Guidelines recommend considering HAART as soon as one knows they have HIV

Food, Protein, Cancer, Diabetes, Mortality - (10/22/14) ..........Moderate Exercise Linked to Better Executive Function in Older HIV+ People........http://www.natap.org/2013/AGE/AGE_05.htm ........Exercise and (reduces) inflammation ....... http://www.natap.org/2011/newsUpdates/052611_08.htm moderate to high-intensity exercise training reduced plasma levels of C-reactive protein, an important pro-inflammatory biomarker, in sedentary healthy adults with initial C-reactive protein levels >3.0 mg/L.1 This finding is potentially important from both a public health and a clinical point of view, because individuals with C-reactive protein >3.0 mg/L represent about one-fourth of all adults and are thought to have a markedly increased risk of cardiovascular disease and type-2 diabetes

Independent Effects of Visceral Fat, Age and HIV Infection on Brain Structure .....'VAT(belly fat) associated with brain atrophy' - (10/10/14)

IDSA: Veterans Aging Cohort Study (VACS) Index, Functional Status, and Other Patient Reported Outcomes in Older HIV-positive (HIV+) Adults in SF.....Poor Outcomes in HIV+ Aging age 53-61 - (10/23/14) .......median age 57....mean CD4 count 507...40% reported falls in the previous year.....32% had severe/moderate loneliness, 50% low degree of perceived social support, 49.9% low physical social support, 26% moderate/severe depression, 33% possible cognitive impairment, 26.8% anxiety, 12.5% PTSD, 11% poor/very poor/fair adherence, 30% fair/poor health, 60% income <20,000, 30% illicit drug use

IWCADR: Self-reported Body Fat Change in HIV-infected Men is a Marker of Decline in Physical Health-related Quality of Life.... "...may be at an greater risk for decline in physical function with aging, compared to HIV-neg men" - (10/08/14)

IWCADR: Impaired Cardiac Strain and Biomarkers of Immune Activation in HIV - (10/08/14)

Efficacy of prolonged tenofovir therapy on hepatitis delta in HIV-infected patients - (10/06/14)

IDSA: Factors associated with the selection of initial antiretroviral therapy: Real-world channeling - (10/15/14)

IWCADR: Heart Disease/Inflammation/Activation - T-cell Activation and E-Selectin Associated with Coronary Plaque in HIV-infected Youth - (09/09/14)......Individuals infected with HIV early in life have higher levels of immune activation, inflammation, and circulating adhesion molecules than controls

- Viral suppression of HIV helps reduce but not completely reverse the chronic inflammatory state of HIV

IWCADR: Hypertension Increased in HIV+ vs HIV-neg in Amsterdam AgehIV Cohort Study (45% vs 31%) & HIV is Independently Associated with Hypertension - (10/17/14).....Subclinical Heart Disease Found in HIV: "impaired strain & biomarkers of immune activation". And HIV/Aging Clinics needed in USA, As well, we need Aging Cohort Studies in the USA like the AgehIV Cohort who conducted the study below & many other studies, in Amsterdam

IDSA: Increased Risk of Hip Fracture Associated with Dually-Treated HIV/Hepatitis B Virus Coinfection - (10/15/14)

IDSA: Structural Bone Deficits in HIV/HCV, HCV-Monoinfected, and HIV-Monoinfected Women - (10/14/14).......this study looked HCV/HIV coinfected, HCV-monoinfected & HIV-monoinfected and also a control group without these infections. These data reinforce bone disease as an extra hepatic manifestation, one of many, reinforcing why delaying HCV treatment causes a variety of health damages in addition to increased risk for liver damage & irreparable liver damage. Look at the data slides below - HCV+ with cirrhosis (f3/F4) appears to have worse bone compared to earlier disease F0-F2. Coinfected women had worse bone looking at several bone measures than both HCV mono- and HIV-mono infected. HIV+ appeared to have worse bone than the uninfected control group. These data reinforce why it is important to treat HCV in HCV/HIV coinfected earlier, as soon as possible

IWCADR:Incidence and clearance of anal high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) in HIV positive and HIV negative homosexual men, preliminary interim report - (10/10/14)

IWCADR: Effect on lipids and reverse cholesterol transport of switching to unboosted atazanavir vs. remaining on ritonavir-boosted atazanavir in regimens with a tenofovir backbone - (09/09/14)

AGE: Diastolic Dysfunction Tied to Impaired Exercise Capacity in Older Men With HIV - (10/23/14)

IDSA: Efavirenz & Suicidality....New analysis among Medicaid & Commercial databases finds no association, reflects current EFV use patterns & safer/proper use of EFV....... - (10/23/14)

IWCADR: Longitudinal Changes in Free Testosterone among Older HIV-infected and HIV-uninfected Men - (09/09/14)

IWCADR: Persistence of HIV Associated Neurocognitive Disorders (HAND) in the Combination Antiretroviral Therapy Era (cART) - (10/17/14)

IDSA:Hip Fracture Rate Higher With HIV/HBV Than HIV Alone in Medicaid Analysis - Mark Mascolini - (10/25/14)

AGE: HCV in Australia "it is the Dallas Buyers Club scenario"...HCV therapy is much less expensive than HIV HAART...... "Australia is on the verge of a catastrophic death spiral from Hepatitis C" - (10/24/14)

AGE: Health Deficits Accumulate Faster With HIV Than Without in Older Adults - - (10/24/14) EXERCISE
